Lauren Sowder is a linocut printmaker based in Newport
News, Virginia. She is a lifelong Virginian and is largely inspired by the
local wildlife of Virginia, especially here in the Tidewater region.

Lauren finds inspiration for her artwork by immersing
herself in nature. She enjoys walking on local trails, incorporating
photography into her practice by taking photos to use as references for her
linocut printmaking and paintings. Her most recent art practice is also
partially shaped by her limited studio space, which has driven her to create
small works that experiment more with technique, texture, and color.
